A French violin bow by Louis Gillet.
This is a very beautiful and great sounding violin bow in a good state of preservation. (made for Lavest and branded on the stick).
It was made circa 1935-1940 .
The stick is made from reddish brown pernambuco of superior choice, strong with an excellent balance and handling.
A beautiful crafted stick, with an elegant shaped head, a bow with great balance and a good feel in the hand.
The bow plays easy, is well-balanced and drwas a powerfull sound.
The frog is made of the finest ebony.
The total length of the stick is around 73,1 cm (4/4 size), and the weight of the bow is 60.2 gr.
The bow is straight and has a good curve.
The bow is ready to play, with new winding and exclusive leather grip.

Louis Henri GILLET,
Louis Henri Born 1891 Nancy, died 1970 Saint-Rémy France. Bow maker, apprenticed in Mirecourt and subsequently employed by Thibouville-Lamy 1906-1911. Military service during the First World War, after which he joined Laberte in Mirecourt. Established independently in modest circumstances in Châlon-sur-Saône from c.1926. Worked for E. Sartory 1934-1946, adopting his style effectively. After Sartory’s death in 1946 continued working for his son-in-law G. Dupuy. From c.1951 to 1960 he was again independent, and some of his best and most richly mounted bows come from this period. Branded: L. GILLET or H.L.G. [Millant/Raffin]
