A fine French certified violin bow by François Xavier Bazin. ca 1860.

Very special French violin bow made by François Xavier Bazin and Charles Nicolas Bazin (collaboration between these famous bow makers) - certified by J.F. Raffin in Paris.

Lovely violin bow with the typical traditional "open French frog model" .(made ca 1860), suited for "old music".

Elegant ebony frog and original button, with a fine stick made of beautifull pernambuco wood, all nickel-silver parts original.

The total length of the stick is around 72.8 cm and the weight of the bow is around 63.5 gr.

The bow comes with new hair and new silver winding.

François Xavier Bazin- (b. Mirecourt 1824 - d. Mirecourt 1865) - was a French archetier / master bow maker and was first of the Bazin dynasty. Notable experts
suggest that he was influenced and purportedly studied with Dominique Peccatte in Paris, and possibly Jean-Baptiste Vuillaume, also in Paris,
before establishing himself in Mirecourt around 1840

BAZIN, François Xavier Born 1824, died 1865 Mirecourt France. Bow maker. Said to have been apprenticed to D. Peccatte in Paris, but so far unproven. Established independently in Mirecourt from c.1845. The Bazin model, with markedly narrow heads, is one of the classical variations of the French bow. Joined by his son Charles Nicolas, above, from c.1860, whose hand is seen in Voirin patterned bows made during these latter years. Branded ‘F. BAZIN’ or ‘BAZIN’. [Millant/Raffin]
